Everyone Sing Along: Songs To Sing Around The Campfire

sing around the campfireSinging around a relaxing, warm campfire is an ideal way to end a fabulous day in the outdoors.

Sometimes the songs being sung are not known by everyone so that giving out the correct lyrics to everybody is a good idea.

This ensures that no one has an excuse not to participate.

Numerous Styles of Songs to Sing

There are a number of different styles of campfire songs such as icebreakers for when everyone doesn’t know each other, chants and cheers, classic songs that have been sung around a campfire for generations, songs to sing in the round and songs to make you feel nostalgic.

You might prefer silly songs or songs that require you to act out certain motions as you sing along.

Songs to Sing in the Round

Everyone knows Baa, Baa Black Sheep, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and the ABC song are of the same tune.

Choose someone to start the song and have them start with whichever of the three songs they prefer.

As you move the song around the circle in keeping with the same tune, each participant changes the lyrics when it is his or her turn.

Repeat after Me Songs

For the song below, have each participant sing the verse either louder, lower, faster or slower, etc. as it goes around the circle.

You can even try having the first participant sing the verse in their style while the next camper sings at the same time in their own style.

Lyrics for Blue jay Version II

Way down yonder and not far off, a blue jay died of the whooping cough, well he whooped and he whooped and he whooped all day, he whooped his head and tail away!

Chanting Campfire Songs

A great song for singing around the campfire is Chili, Chili, Baby! This incorporates some motion into the song as well.

Stomp your feet and clap your hands like this: stomp, stomp, clap, stomp, stomp clap before each line is chanted. Until instructed, one person at a time will chant a line.

  • Chili, chili, baby!
  • Chili, chili baby!

Hey (chant a name) do that thing!

    “I can’t!”

    “Why not?”

    “I just can’t!

    ‘Why not”

    (everyone sings together)

    Because my back hurts

    My shirt’s too tight

And my booty shakes from the left to the right (Have everyone really shake their booty)

From the left to the right (repeat the shaking)

Repeat as many times as you’d like.
