Scotland’s Garlieston Lodge – An Ideal Adult-Only Campground

Many people like to get away from it all, including the kids, when camping. If you’d like some peaceful time out in the countryside on your own, there’s an ideal adult-only campground called Garlieston Lodge in the village Garlieston, in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

The site is open all year round and handles tents, caravans and motorhomes. The site is Camping and Caravanning Club certificated and was named the best campground in 2008. The Lodge dates back to the 1800’s and is nestled in five acres of woodland. It has a small river flowing through it as well as a fishing lake that’s stocked brown and rainbow trout. There are also lawns and an orchard. You’ll often see wild deer visiting the lake for a cool and refreshing drink.

The nearby Garlieston Harbour has a rich maritime history while the charming village is home to a post office, a couple of shops, tennis courts, a bowling green, a coffee shop, a pub/restaurant, and two interesting art galleries. The harbour is only a few minutes’ walk from the campground and there’s a boat launch available where you can travel down the Wigtown Bay estuary. You can keep busy at the peaceful site by cycling, fishing, bird watching and sightseeing.

The Garlieston Lodge campground has 16-amp electric hook ups, gas refills, showers, bathrooms, and a chemical disposal. Dogs are welcome and there’s a beach about a mile away for swimming and watersports.
