Those going camping anytime soon should think about what they are going to eat on their trip if they want to survive. There are plenty of easy camping recipes that you can follow when you are out in the wild, and your options grow tremendously when you are able to build a fire.

Most camping grounds have fire pits that are designated as an area to build a fire, and some of them will even have grills that can be used for cookouts.

You have to decide what you want to eat before you head out on your camping adventure because you aren’t going to want to go to the grocery store once you are out there. Easy camping recipes usually involve you bringing some food with you, but you can also try catching some fish and cooking that up for dinner.

You should always bring some backup food no matter what you plan on bringing because you never know what could go wrong when you are out in the wild.

You should definitely not plan on just eating fish that you catch out in the wild during your camping trip because then you will have nothing to eat when the fish aren’t biting.

It would be nice to be able to eat something that you caught on your little adventure, but sometimes the fish just aren’t biting. You always need to have a backup plan for your meals when something could be going wrong at any moment.

What to use for easy camping recipes

You are going to need to build a fire for most easy camping recipes, so make sure you are going to a campground that will make it easy for a fire to be built. You should also bring something to put on to of the fire so that it is easy to cook any kind of meal you would want. Some people even bring kettles on their camping trips so they can make tea over the fire during the day.

There aren’t many limits to what you can cook when you have a fire because that source of heat can be used to cook almost anything. Burgers and hot dogs are the two most commonly eaten items out in the wild because they are relatively easy to cook and most people enjoy them. The best thing to eat out in the wild is fish that is caught during the day because there is nothing better than eating something that you caught or killed on your own.

Bring chips, drinks and other uncooked items

You should always make sure that you bring food items that don’t need to be cooked just in case you are not able to put together a fire on your camping trip. Plenty of people are able to follow easy camping recipes, but it’s impossible to follow those recipes when you can’t build a fire. You always need to have some food on hand in case you can’t cook anything else.

Eating is one of the most interesting activities on a camping trip. So, why don’t you try for recipes that your children love most? First, make a list of all possible meals by collecting ideas from your children. Ask your children what their favorite meals are.

Though the kids’ ideas are not practical, with little creativity, you can make tastiest meals over a campfire.

Camping pizza: Most of the kids love this recipe because it uses only few ingredients that are easy to bring to your camping trip.

If your children are old enough to cook the food over hot coals, then allow each of them to make their own one. The cooking tool that is needed to make pizza is pie iron. After cooking, it just appears as a calzone, but tastes as pizza.

Ingredients: White bread, pizza sauce, margarine, pepperoni, and mozzarella sauce.

How to prepare?

Spread sauce, cheese and various other toppings on a slice of bread.

Keep other bread slice on top of it.

Add butter to both sides.

Then keep the buttered bread slices inside pie iron and put it over hot coal.

Often, rotate the pie iron so that pizza is properly toasted on both the sides.

Banana canoe: It is not only fun to make this recipe, but also fun to have.

Ingredients: Fresh banana with firm peel, 2 tsp granola, 2 tsp mini marshmallow and 1 tsp marshmallow.

How to prepare?

Put the banana on a thick aluminum foil.

Don’t peel it, cut into two pieces along the length of the banana.

Stuff it with nuts, chocolate chip, and marshmallows.

Cover banana in aluminum foil.

Place it over hot coal with tongs and leave for 10 minutes.

Then place the banana on a table with the help of tongs, allow it to cool and then have it.

Grilled delights are something everybody loves. The best way to eat a good and tasty camping dish is to experience all the savor and flavor of grilled delights.

Who says you can only grill meat? Nowadays the healthy way of camping encourages us to watch our diet but also to make the most of the camping cooking experience using nothing but healthy ingredients.

So what exactly can we grill on a fall camping fire? Grilled corn is delightful if grilled in the cob. The most common grilled corn recipe is the one using nothing else but olive oil and a pinch of salt.

If you want a slightly milder taste but also a more delightful treat for your palate, use butter and cream cheese.

You can prepare this grilled dish sweet or salty but make sure you keep the corn inside the cob long enough to cook thoroughly.

Grilled champignon mushrooms are also a delight for camping trips. Clean them of the soft skin, wash them and remove the leg. Put them on the grill with the hole up and put some oil in them. Let them cook for 10-15 minutes.

Pour out the liquid from the hole, and fill with soft cheese. Let the cheese grill and melt. These two dishes accompany perfectly one another and they are perfect for anybody who wants to have a meatless grilled delight.

Camping food isn’t considered as the healthiest food, but in case you want to eat healthy, while camping, here are some delicious recipes. The Hoe cakes are easy to prepare and most of all, healthy.

The ingredients you need are 2 cups of corn meal, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 cups of boiling water and oil for frying. Boil water on the camping fire and then pour it as it is hot over the cornmeal. Stir it well.

Meanwhile heat the oil into a different bowl. Shape the cornmeal mush into patties and put them into the heated oil. Cook until each patty is crispy brown. Cool it and serve.

The typical camping sausages can be also healthy, if prepared without oil.

First and more important is to buy the sausages from the local farms, this mean they are healthy and produced in a green way.

It is the same with the bacon. In case you want to eat healthier, while camping, just cook the sausages and the bacon without any oil.

It is not necessary as the bacon and the sausages have their own oils in which they will be cooked. As for the eggs, you can use some organic cooking oils.

The adventure of camping will never be the same without the camping fire. Moreover, the camping meals prepared on the fire are surely one of the most delicious things you will probably ever taste.

In case you are not into camping cooking, here are some unforgettable and tasty recipes for meals baked on a stick.

One of the most popular recipes, which almost any camper knows to prepare, is the biscuits on a stick. The ingredients you need are: one can biscuits squeeze butter and 1 stick.

The preparation is easy and doesn’t take too long. Simply roll out the biscuit, in order to make it elongated as you make sure it is nearly 1 inch thick, especially at the center.

Wrap it at the beginning of the stick and be careful to press it well. This way it will stay on the stick, while cooking on fire.

Cook on the campfire, until brown and pour butter on it. Most of the campers are sprinkling cinnamon or sugar on it, but butter will make the taste smoother.

Fish on stick is also a famous camp food, so you should try this recipe for a perfect camp dinner. In case you aren’t good at fishing, simply take fish fillets before camping. Buy your favorite seasoning and you are ready to prepare it.

Add the fish fillets to the stick, but season it before putting it above the campfire. Cook it on the fire, as you can also prepare potatoes, baked in the campfire. Usually preparing a fish will take no longer than 20 minutes.

Many consider the steak kabobs as an absolute must have in the list of the camping meals. In order to prepare it, you will need special ingredients- Pre-marinated steak cut into 1 inch cubes, skewers and vegetables of your choice, but typically bell peppers and onions go perfectly with the steak.

Prepare the meat and the vegetables as you season them well. Place them on the skewers and grill them for 15 minutes. Some people grill them over hot coals, so you should try that too, as you have to make sure they are grilled on the both sides.

In case you want to prepare a dessert, the Angel Food Cake is perfect for this matter. You will need loaf of Italian bread cut into pieces, 1 can of Sweet & Condensed milk and flaked coconut.

Cover the pieces of the Italian bread with sweet & condensed milk and roll them in coconut. Wrap the pieces on the stick and cook on the campfire, but you need to be careful. They are ready, when they become light-brown.

Most people go camping equipped with all the necessary gear to cook outdoors and in the same time keep the forest safe.

Camping recipes are not always very hard to make but there are cases when just grilled meat is no longer to your satisfaction and the hunger calls for something…different.

Foil wrapped cooking is not exactly new but we have to admit it is something very handy, requires very little cooking gear, doesn’t take a very long time to clean after it and it has the advantage of being prepared with nothing but the camp fire you use to grill and make smores.

Using foil cooking you can prepare meat, vegetables and desserts with very little fuss and nothing but a foil cooking tray.

The meat is easy to make by simply marinating it and placing it inside the tray along with the veggies you plan to use for garnish. Cover with foil and let it cook smoothly at the camp fire. You will have a complete meal in a short time.

If you are a vegan, cooking just veggies with a drop of seasoning and a bit of Caesar dressing can be done exactly the same.

You can cook mushrooms filled with cheese using the same method or grill fleshy fruit like peaches with nothing but a drop of cinnamon and honey.

On a camping trip, nothing is quite as fitting as to grill fish freshly caught after a long day of fun.

There are a number of recipes for making fish, but there are basic spices a person should usually have on a camping trip.

First is pepper, black pepper is a good spice and is great with fish; however, if no one minds a little tartness in their fish lemon pepper is also very good. Lemon and most sea foods go together just like shrimp and lemon.

Salt is also another handy thing to take on a camping trip as it can easily take the blandness right out of a food. Other seasonings that are good are cayenne pepper to give the fish a little heat and enliven the taste of it.

If opting not to use lemon pepper, either a sprinkling of lemon or lime juice will give the tartness to the fish.

Butter is also handy to have around because not only is it delicious with almost everything, but a little smear of it on the fish will give it a great grill taste and smell.

The best thing to do is take along the spices most commonly used at home, the ones everyone loves and mix and match to suit the tastes of those who are going to enjoy this delicious meal.

Choose some tasty and good deli meats as well as some fresh-sliced cheeses of your choice.

You will quickly find that deli meats and freshly sliced cheeses from your local grocery deli section make for an extraordinary meal while still maintaining the ‘roughing it’ feel of the camp ground and nature.

Make sure to buy only premium quality meat. Buying premium quality meat is important both to your satisfaction and also because premium quality meats will stay fresher longer and will be more resilient to the refrigerator to the freezer to the cooler to the camp site routine it goes through.

Buying premium quality deli meats and cheeses will also ensure you have the least fillers and preservatives you can get in a deli meat or cheese.

With deli meats and cheeses you can experiment with the standard deli sandwich, an open faced sandwich, and you can even heat up the meat and cheeses for a melt.

Not only does it give family a chance to enjoy the great outdoors, it allows them to spend time together.

Camping is not for everyone and people will have their own ideas about how much “stuff” to bring with them.

Some will want to bring everything but the proverbial kitchen sink, while others will only take the absolute bare minimum.

One aspect of camping that can either be a lot of fun or can be a huge headache is cooking. Approach it with the right attitude and everyone involved should have a great time.

There are some essentials that will make campsite cooking easier. Aluminum foil is invaluable when camping. A skillet can also be helpful. Of course, it will also depend on if someone is backpacking or not. Here are some camping recipes that are quick, easy, and very tasty.

Breakfast Burritos

Considered the most important meal of the day, breakfast will give the body the necessary energy to get through the morning. If there is access to a frying pan, breakfast burritos are easy to make and can serve several people quickly.

Ingredients

8 eggs, beaten

1-8 oz bag of shredded cheddar cheese

½ medium onion, minced

½ pound of bulk sausage

8 flour tortillas

Preparation

Cook the sausage until no longer pink, stirring frequently to avoid sticking. While the sausage is cooking, wrap the tortillas in aluminum foil and place on rack above fire. Watch carefully; it doesn’t take long to warm the tortillas.

Carefully drain all but a small amount of grease from the pan. Add eggs and onion. Cook until the eggs are no long runny. Remove from heat.

Build the tortilla by placing a spoonful of the egg and sausage mixture in the middle of a tortilla. Top with cheese.

Roll up the tortilla and enjoy. (Hint: Keep extra packets of taco sauce from Mexican fast food restaurants. They don’t take up much room and can add a lot of flavor to the burritos.)

Baked Fish and Vegetables

This is a great recipe to use for cooking the day’s catch. Simply clean the fish as you wish, and then grab your aluminum foil.

Ingredients

2 fish fillets

3 potatoes, peeled and cut into one-inch chunks

½ of a thinly sliced onion

½ of an onion cut into chunks and separated

1 green pepper, cleaned and cut into chunks

2 tbs of butter

Lemon juice

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Pull off three pieces of foil. If it’s not heavy duty aluminum foil, then fold it in half before use. Place one fish fillet in two pieces of foil. Add one tablespoon of butter on top.

Add a very small quantity (1/2 tsp) of lemon juice on top of the fish and a couple of the slices of onion. Wrap in foil and place on grill. While the fish are cooking, place the potatoes, pepper, chunked onion and some salt and pepper in the other foil packet.

Wrap and place on the grill above the campfire [Campfire Cooking]. Check the fish often. It’s done when it is white and flaky. The vegetables will cook quickly and can burn to the foil, so be sure to keep an eye on them as well.

When both are done, remove from heat and place on plate. Clean up is a breeze. (Hint: prepare the vegetables at home and place in zip lock bags to save time.)

A Final Thought

Many people have campfire recipes that have been passed down for generations. Keep the cooking simple and remember that everything seems to taste best outside!
