The name Wawona does ring a bell so it must have been where we were. I remember it was pretty close to Half Dome. We sort of camped... we slept in wooden cabins located at the foot of the main trail leading to waterfalls and the sequoia groves. The Grizzly sequoia was one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. I remember camping in Yosemite but can’t remember if it was at Wawona Campground. Patrick's Point State Park, near Trinidad, CA (30 min north of Eureka). One of the most beautiful sites in the world. Huge coastal redwoods, gigantic beautiful sea cliffs, amazing whale watching, bird watching, fields with elk & deer, very easily accessed...
