Suggestions to June: Begin researching famous state parks or national parks near where you live, 4-6 hours away. National parks are fairly inexpensive to camp - $16-20/night up to 2 tents/2 cars. Most places provide a picnic table and a fire ring for camp fire. Tents are cheap these days: a small tent for 2-4 people runs about $25-40, you can also pick up a small propane stove with 2 burners and a few small cans of propane. Wal-mart is great for most of these equipments. Bring old hangers, clip one end, straighten them for roasting marshmallows for s'mores. some wood for fires. Don't forget the pots and pans. Buy a set from WM. Also, remember to bring along a couple of pails for washing dishes. Make reservations if available. Many state campgrounds are first come, first serve. I love these because I don't have to make reservations. We just arrive on Monday morning and we get in (because many people are weekenders and leave on Sunday!) More ideas by email. Have fun! We've been to many national parks in the West like Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Gold country, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Yellowstone, Bryce and Zion Canyons.

I am 53/female and have the urge to begin tent camping. My husband likes a roof and television so I'll probably be on my own. Looking for clubs/groups to camp with, atleast in the beginning...can you recommend? Any age fine with me. I'm older, but young at heart.
